Gov. Christie praises Obama’s Sandy ‘leadership'; libs rejoice, conservatives rebuke

I have confidence that we will have support from the President and federal authorities. #Sandy

— Governor Christie (@GovChristie) October 30, 2012

On conf call with POTUS discussing post-Sandy cleanup efforts in partnership with the feds. He is instructing Gov’t to lean forward to help.

— Governor Christie (@GovChristie) October 30, 2012

Twitter has been buzzing since this morning over New Jersey Governor Chris Christie’s praise of President Obama’s assistance during Hurricane Sandy. In addition to his tweets expressing gratitude to Obama, Christie also made the morning talk show rounds to update Americans on his state’s situation and to thank the president for his “outstanding” leadership.

Christie: “Pres. has been all over this & he deserves great credit.””Incredibly supportive & helpful to our state.” politi.co/S9MgwD

— Paul Begala (@PaulBegala) October 30, 2012

Christie said he spoke with Obama three times on Monday, including at midnight, when Obama agreed to speed along an major disaster declaration for New Jersey without all the “normal FEMA mumbo jumbo.” The declarations for New Jersey and New York were issued this morning.

“The president has been all over this and he deserves great credit,” Christie said. “I’ve been on the phone with him, like I said, yesterday, personally three times. He gave me his number at the White House, told me to call him if I needed anything. And he absolutely means it.”

“I spoke to the president three times yesterday,” Christie said on CNN’s “Starting Point.” “He has been incredibly supportive and helpful to our state and not once did he bring up the election. So if he’s not bringing it up, you can be sure that people in New Jersey are not worried about that primarily if one of the guys running isn’t.”

I don’t give a damn about Election Day after what has happened here. I am worried about the people of New Jersey. #Sandy

— Governor Christie (@GovChristie) October 30, 2012

Liberals fawned over Christie’s embrace of “bipartisanship”:

@govchristie Thank you for your bipartisanship during this emergency. Good luck to NJ in recovery efforts.

— Nancy Sobel (@nancysobel) October 30, 2012

@govchristie Thanks Governor for keeping disaster like in your state above politics. You are a True American Hero and future #President.

— basudeb dey (@basudebdey) October 30, 2012

@govchristie Thank you for recognizing the President’s leadership. God bless and good luck to you and he great state of New Jersey.

— Pamela Sellers(@PamelaSSellers) October 30, 2012

work between @govchristie & @barackobama on #Sandy show that nature knows no party lines. Thanks for being an example to our country!

— Katie Duthaler (@k8eduth) October 30, 2012

@govchristie very nice of you Governor. THAT’S what we need more of.

— DennisM (@newsagg) October 30, 2012

@govchristie thank you for putting politics aside during this and supporting the President.

— Melinda Byerley (@melindabyerley) October 30, 2012

Thrilled @govchristie reached across the aisle to thank the President for his assistance w/ #Sandy! Now is the time for unity, not politics.

— Brooks Sherman (@byobrooks) October 30, 2012

Yes! Bipartisanship for the sake of the people! NJ Gov. Chris Christie Praises President Obama for Sandy Response abcn.ws/QS13Nx

— Lindsey Giordano (@lawoman23) October 30, 2012

And several gloated over Christie’s praise of FEMA, seizing upon the false assertion that Mitt Romney would eliminate federal disaster relief aid.

Heard Christie was profusely thanking Obama for his support during #Sandy. Yet the candidate he backs would do away with said support. Hmm.

— Frenchie (@lafemmeluna) October 30, 2012

@govchristie Good, and keep in mind Romney would negatively impact your FEMA assistance!

— Jean Martha(@TheJeanMartha) October 30, 2012

Pow! RT @kiaspeaks: Romney wants to end FEMA RT @rickklein: Christie called response by FEMA & Obama “outstanding” @gma

— Krys Talley (@kryschameleon) October 30, 2012

@thejeanmartha @govchristie He wants to do away with FEMA!!!!!!!

— Maggy (@Maggyw519) October 30, 2012

Christie’s praise of Obama left a bad taste in many conservatives’ mouths:

What is Christie’s problem today? Mention Romney and he says he doesn’t give a damn about politics mention Obama says he is great

— Theresa Maurer (@TheresaMaurer2) October 30, 2012

@politicszap If he’s so “outstanding” perhaps Christie would like another 4 yrs of his crap! Why not just take an ad out for team Obama?

— Kevin Randall (@KevinRandall5) October 30, 2012

@pamelassellers Christie said NOTHING about Obama’s leadership, he thanked him 4 ASSISTANCE. Obama remains a failed president & poor leader.

— Pete Vazquez (@PeteTheStorm) October 30, 2012

@ananavarro Christie wants Fed aid.Obama uses Fed aid as a weapon in the past

— Harish PA USA EARTH (@T_PartyInfantry) October 30, 2012

OK, Chris Christie. We love you, but please stop gushing about Obama. We don’t need his help to clean up and rebuild. #Sandy

— RedGalBlueState (@RedGalBluState) October 30, 2012

@greggutfeld Christie’s effusive praise for Obama’s “help” stopped just short of describing the tingle he got up his leg from the encounter.

— Kent (@kents2cents) October 30, 2012

Gov. Christie ” #Obama ‘s been great.” Sorry for the cynacism, but his forte is distributing federal money.Everything else.#fail

— Dawn Hendershot (@DawnHendershot) October 30, 2012

Chris Christie praising Obama & FEMA. Yuck. It’s purely political Chris. Last gasp to look “presidential”. Remember oil spill?

— BJ Theis (@HZ4FREEDOM) October 30, 2012

Some saw it as a diss of Mitt Romney and his efforts to contribute to disaster relief:

WTH ? RT @samrod2935: After Gov. Christie praises Obama for his leadership, he disses Romney for wanting to come and inspect the damage.

— p.j. Kansas (@pjkansas) October 30, 2012

@ingrahamangle sounds like gov christie just threw romney under the bus on fox and friends

— GLENN CARP (@GCGATOR24) October 30, 2012

But a few people pointed out that Christie was only responding as would be expected given that his state is receiving federal aid:

@politico Christie has no choice but praise Obama…he is afraid they won’t help him if he doesn’t.

— JEN CANNON (@cannon_jen) October 30, 2012

Ever think that maybe Gov Christie just wants to help people in his state? Dems, stop high 5ing his Obama praise. Crass. NJ is suffering

— Brad Dayspring (@BDayspring) October 30, 2012

Funny how many are “surprised” that Christie praised Obama for helping New Jersey respond to the storm. What did they expect him to to do?

— Charlie Spiering (@charliespiering) October 30, 2012

And that Christie is merely grateful that the president is doing his job:

@nathanwurtzel yep. as though christie is like, “obama did what a president is supposed to do therefore _________.”

— Ryan (@alwaysonoffense) October 30, 2012

Though Christie’s effusive praise for Obama may not be politically motivated, there’s no doubt that it could have some political impact, particularly with Election Day only one week out.

We can certainly agree with Governor Christie when he stresses the importance of coping with Hurricane Sandy and getting on the road to recovery. We continue to pray for those affected by this disaster.

Absurd: US Embassy Cairo tweets ‘Glad Mubarak is gone,’ praises revolution

Wow. As Twitchy reported yesterday, the U.S. Embassy in Cairo somehow managed to get the keys to its Twitter account back, after being thrown under the bus for its disgraceful apologism on September 11. Yesterday, the embassy tweeted, during protests and riots in Egypt that had spread to the U.S. Embassy in Cairo, that the revolution was a “positive step.” Today, the embassy is continuing its pattern of being a textbook example of what not to do. After announcing it was glad that Mubarak is gone, the embassy doubled down on the idiocy.

@a1mimo We want to deal with a democratic #Egypt that accurately represents its people and fulfills their aspirations

— US Embassy Cairo (@USEmbassyCairo) November 26, 2012

.@a1mimo One of the reasons we were glad to see the January 25 Revolution was that it meant we could deal with a fellow democratic country

— US Embassy Cairo (@USEmbassyCairo) November 26, 2012

@alymahfouz We wanted to make sure we let Egyptians lead the process. It was not our place to interfere

— US Embassy Cairo (@USEmbassyCairo) November 26, 2012

.@mariafahmy We want to see #Egypt continue to progress toward full democracy without power concentrated in the hands of one person

— US Embassy Cairo (@USEmbassyCairo) November 26, 2012

Perhaps the embassy should read this piece by Commentary magazine.

The full implications of Morsi’s ascendency are not yet apparent. But we can draw a few rather obvious conclusions from these events. The first is this makes the region a much more dangerous place and peace even more unlikely. the second is that the much ballyhooed Arab Spring turned out to be an Islamist triumph, not an opening for democracy. And third, and perhaps most disconcerting for Americans, it looks like the Obama administration has shown itself again to be a band of hopeless amateurs when it comes to the Middle East. While President Obama shouldn’t be blamed for toppling Mubarak, this episode is more proof of the gap between his foreign policy instincts and a rational defense of American interests.

Read the whole thing, embassy.

A Twitter user questioned the embassy’s claim that it didn’t interfere.

@alymahfouz No thank you. You are right, that it was a rapidly developing situation and our statements developed along with it

— US Embassy Cairo (@USEmbassyCairo) November 26, 2012

Ah, yes. The old “rapidly developing situation.” Kind of like how Benghazi “evolved” from caused by a crappy movie to, you know, a planned terrorist attack.

Due to the security situation around the U.S. Embassy, there will be no #visa or American Citizen services tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov 27

— US Embassy Cairo (@USEmbassyCairo) November 26, 2012

A “positive step!”

Other Twitter users rightly continue to call out the embassy.

@usembassycairo @mariafahmy If Morsi insist on his decree, we will have another dictator & new radical constitution that puts Iran to shame.

— Mo Ikhwan Slayer (@NoToEgypistan) November 26, 2012

@usembassycairo @a1mimo It’s hard to believe that while Obama’s administration is giving full support to Islamofascists to take over

— Youssab (@Youssab_John) November 26, 2012

Read news coming out of Egypt. @usembassycairo just today called this revolution an “incredibly positive step forward”. #DetachedFromReality

— Little Miss Rightie (@LilMissRightie) November 25, 2012

@usembassycairo – still clueless dimmi’s as always. The Muslim brotherhood HATES us. Get a clue please. This kind of message shows weakness

— Jimbo Maukee (@connmarkey) November 25, 2012

Hey @usembassycairo how does it feel to be the tip of the wet noodle of Barack Obama’s Mid-East foreign policy?

— John Reid (@GrahamPink) November 25, 2012

@lilmissrightie @usembassycairoNo excuse for this misinformation. They are either the most incompetent or they are for the enemy.

— Stevie D (@sdistef) November 25, 2012

@usembassycairo @sandmonkey do you even know what those aspirations are? Multiple groups involved, w/multiple “aspirations”.

— Nickarama (@Nickarama1) November 25, 2012

@usembassycairo U view Islamist junta’s power grab raping, slaughtering, oppressing2 be an “incredibly positive step forward” @sandmonkey

— Mary from MA (@MaryfromMA) November 26, 2012

@usembassycairo Replacing a friendly tyrant with an Islamist terror-supporting unfriendly dictator is an “incredibly positive step”? #Idiot

— novaculus (@novaculus) November 26, 2012

Whoever tweets on this account is an embarrassment. Please hire a professional. >> @usembassycairo

— Corr Comm (@corrcomm) November 26, 2012

This is what happens when you have an administration that doesn’t know how to put on big boy pants. If it was only regular incompetence, it could almost be funny. But, it is not this time; the incompetence is dangerous.

Update: Embassy affirms it is speaking for America.

@meganm311 We are speaking for America. Thank you for talking with us.

— US Embassy Cairo (@USEmbassyCairo) November 26, 2012

Um.

@snarkandboobs That’s our job. Thanks for talking with us.

— US Embassy Cairo (@USEmbassyCairo) November 26, 2012

You’re doing it wrong. Stop “speaking” now, please. Thanks!

Update: The always amazing Mark Steyn weighs in, as only he can.

“this is without doubt the dumbest embassy” @marksteynonline on @usembassycairo tweeting their love for dictator Morsi

Obamacare Splash Page Stock Photo Girl is new National Review cover star

We don’t know the identity of the model whose face graces the splash page of online train wreck HealthCare.gov — we (and many others) are just glad we’re not her. It must be tough to be the face of failure on every news broadcast. Now, Obamacare Splash Page Stock Photo Girl has found a new gig, on the cover of the new National Review.

The clever cover re-creates the HealthCare.gov splash page with a few modifications, including a big green “Abandon Hope, All Who Click Here” button where the “Apply Online” button used to be. Another new feature is a “See Error Messages In Your Area” button.

Death-wish Dem Allan Brauer’s history of online hate

Look over there! A Republican War on Women!

Allan Brauer, communications chair for the Sacramento Democrats, apologized earlier for a tweet to Amanda Carpenter in which he wished for the children of Ted Cruz’s senior communications adviser to “die from debilitating, painful and incurable diseases.” Because Republicans hate children, or something.

Brauer is the perfect representative to “walk the walk” on Democrat talking points against Republicans. For example, he’s fully qualified to rail against Republican misogyny:

Brauer is also a living, breathing example of the Democrats “we care more about all people” claim, as Texas Rep. Steve Stockman noticed:

Put that man in charge of our health care, right away! We’ve also found our next Homeland Security director.

Brauer is also one Dem who is good at demonstrating how the Republicans are so anti-Hispanic:

null

Trumpeting to the world the GOP hates kids and those with special needs? Brauer was on it:

And don’t forget the respect for the dead:

More on Brauer’s hate:

Anyway, back to that Republican “War on Women and Children.”

Twitter suspends Anonymous account behind Occupy Steubenville rape protests

http://twitter.com/#!/AnonymousJaye/status/289149011028484096

As Twitchy reported, activists associated with the Occupy and Anonymous movements have been pressuring authorities in Steubenville, Ohio, to expand their investigation of an alleged rape which took place in August. Two 16-year-old boys face a trial in February, but protesters assert that more might have been involved and a cover-up is underway to protect popular athletes in the community.

Today, a Twitter account associated with Anonymous was suspended. @KYAnonymous, who has been a driving force behind the Occupy Steubenville movement and appeared on “Anderson Cooper 360″ complete with Guy Fawkes mask, and began tweeting today from a backup account.

We’re well aware of the tendency of conservative tweeters to land in “Twitter Gulag,” a happening so common as to have inspired the nascent Twitter Gulag Defense Network. Was KYAnonymous suspended for an alleged threat sent via direct message? Another Twitter user, @Ihazcandy, says yes. KYAnonymous says he was framed.

For now, the justice system in Steubenville is responsible for determining who’s guilty in the rape case. Twitter, meanwhile, will have to use whatever evidence it has to determine if the “heart and intent” of the “executioner” behind the mask is in conflict with its terms of service, if not the law itself.
